Update Report [July]

What did prevent me from going shopping and have dinner tomorrow?

Major Updates:

First:
I finally widened the Content-Wrappers. Instead of 820p you'll get 1000p of Posts+Sidebar.
Banner will stay the same, though. 720p.

Now that there's some more space for the sidebar, I included some (provisional?) seperator between Post-Wrapper and Sidebar.
I'll see if it pisses me off over the next couple of days; if it does I'll find some better replacement.

POST-FOOTER!
Hell, this one is hard to chew, the html-code was such a piece of crap...
Finally got to reorganize the order of elements and added the Share-Buttons.
I used some share buttons I found on the web, after getting the Blogspot-ones to work and thought they were crap. These are better.

Minor Updates:

Blockquotes' border now is left again; widening the wrapper made the right ones useless.

Working on some sidebar-adjustments, new widgets planned.

Update Reports get the "Another Update Report"-Image so they stand out a bit more.

Plans:

As I said: Sidebar-border and new Widgets;

Page-Updates.

That's all for July 2010~

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai: Meakashi-hen

Since Mangagamer hasn't released the Kai-Arcs as a complete pack like the Question Arcs, I'll release the four Kai-Arcs one by one.

Anyone who hasn't already read Higurashi 1-4 can pick them up here

Again, this is prepatched; PS2-Grafics with the old PC-Grafics stored in "data02000.arc.old";
change the "data02000.arc" to e.g. "data02000.arc.new" and the "data02000.arc.old" to "data02000.arc" to use the old grafics instead.
Anyway, some background-images might not be replaced, but don't worry.
Music files have been inserted as well.

The Game is a portable version!
Just start it using the "higurashi_kai_meakashi.exe", "BGI.exe" would ask you for the serial, higurashi.exe bypasses that.
Means, you could easily put it onto some USB stick and play it anywhere you want, be it your home pc or just some netcafe.

Black★Rock Shooter

It has finally arrived.
My DVD's not yet on the road, but thanks to free streaming of this OVA, you can already watch and download it.

The DVD already comes with subs for about 7 languages, but... they don't look all that nice and still got some errors as well as name-switching.

So... I styled those subs, switched names back and corrected some minor things.

The outcome can be downloaded (and seeded!) via Nyaatorrents.org or simply get this

TORRENT
MEGAUPLOAD

I did this as one of my first attempts to actually sub something (..to be honest, I wanted to know how much effort rip-groups like Commie or HorribleSubs really put into their releases *coughs*) AND naturally there will be some things that could be better - SO TELL ME!
You've got a nice comment-function here, so post your problems and/or corrections (or thanks?).

Anyway, enjoy this long-awaited OVA.
XViD's still encoding, need to hardsub it for Megavideo (which will be here later on as well as some DDL-Links).

Later~

PS:
For those who already got the Zero-Raw and wanna mux it themselves, pick this Zip with the Subs and the Font I used.

Cat Shit One!

Let's hope somebody subs this soon!

Solving Umineko

Alright, continuing reading the Visual Novel made me eager to think about Umineko again.

This is my take on who the murder truly is.
It contains massive spoilers, so beware.
You should at least have watched the Anime before reading this!

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Visual Novel 1-4

So yeah, I finally get around to play/read it.
Picked up the Questions Arcs 1-4, but damn, the Art isn't what I would enjoy. Unlike Umineko, it just won't grow on me.

So my course of action has been downloading patches to replace the VN-Art, means character sprites and backgrounds, with the newer ones of the PS2-Port.
Works pretty well, and, on top of that, I also patched that official english version's sound and bgm.

Apparently they couldn't keep the original sounds due to license-stuff which led to a mass of sound effect duplicates, annoying cicadas instead of the creepy-yet-calming sounds and some failures more.

So, it's back in.
the Art-archive got pumped from less than 250mb to a mass of 800(!)mb, which should clearly tell you how massive that upgrade was.

In fact, instead of this:

you get this:

Alright, let's move on to the useful part of this post.

I prepared some download for you, took me a while (in fact, it's still Uploading while I'm writing), but I think it may help a lot of people out there who just are either too lazy or too unversed to patch the game or just don't bother the childish art.

It's a massive upload, in fact almost 1.1 GB.
I left BOTH Art-packs in, the PS2-upgrade is standard.

The Game is a portable version!
Just start it using the "higurashi.exe", "BGI.exe" would ask you for the serial, higurashi.exe bypasses that.

I maxed out the filesize for Uploaded.to, parts are compatible with Megaupload.
Rapidshare, though, still has that annoying 200mb-per-file-limit (guess it will be increased in the near future, but that's another story ;)
Edit: Remote-Uploaded the RS-Files to Uploaded.to, so RS+UL.to are compatible.

Technical Stuff:

If you want to change the artpack (which you can do anytime outside the game; you could even save the game, quit, change the package and load just to see how it is with the other art) you need to do these steps:

  1. Go to the Higurashi-Folder

  2. Search for the "data02000.arc"-file and change it's name to something else, e.g. "data02000.arc.bak" for backup or rather "data02000.arc.ps2"

  3. Search the other "data02000.arc"-file which I renamed to "data02000.arc.old" and remove the ".old" so it is a clean "data02000.arc" file

  4. That's it, start the game

Remember, the one around 800mb is the PS2 one.
Also, you could just delete the one you really don't need, but I thought it may be nice for comparison, screens or just out of curiosity.

The music and soundfiles could also be removed if you really want to;
all "msys"-files are the music-files. Delete or move them to get rid of them.
But remember, these are the updated, original ones which provide more varied music without duplicates.
All the files starting with "wa_" are sound effects.
You really SHOULDN'T remove them, trust me, the official english ones are so damn annoying and repetitve...

Guess that's all to tell you.
Have fun reading this awesome Visual Novel!

PS: Higurashi Kai should follow once I bother getting and patching it.

FFXIV: First Login

So after around 9 Hours patching is finally done.

Alright, so Character Creation already is far superior to that WoW crap. Not perfect, but still BETA yet lovely done.

...Loading, loading, loading?
Yeah, lag and loading screens are kinda turning me down, but we'll see - it's BETA-rush!

Anyway, looks beautiful, I have to admit. Once they put on some voice for the tutorial-character the atmosphere will get massively better.

I hate to say it, but now I'm looking forward to more testing and even consider buying the new CPU rather this month than next :'D

Installing FFXIV Beta

...yeah...

I'm running on Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Completely up to date.

The cool Installer of Final Fantasy XIV BETA wants me to update to Windows XP Service Pack 2. Yeah, right. XP! Haha. WTF?!

Let's see how this gets fixed, a mass of testers is suffering from this shit, let's see.

Again, Square Enix seems to manage to piss me off before I even come to play their games.

Oh, and btw, compatibilty mode is disabled for the installer, dunno why.

Update:
Lucky me bypassed that problem, now it's stuck on DirectX... yeah, like a wouldn't already have a higher version than theirs...

Update 2:
First Install complete. Now updating felt 5mio times... at least the music is nice.

Update 3:
It has been preparing the next update for around 3-5minutes before downloading. Kinda meh.
Also, I'm uploading with twice as fast as I'm downloading. FU, P2P!

WTF 20 HOURS?!

Final Fantasy XIV Beta Test

Yup, I've been chosen. Wow. Not that I'm that eager to play it anymore. Never was. Was more like an 'let's see what happens'-registration.

Nevermind, I'll try it, won't have to pay for it, so what.

So I guess you'll read some rants soon~

PS: Login will be available from tomorrow on, dammit.

First Impressions: Ookami-san

to Shichinin no Nakamatachi

Alright, two episodes aired, here's my take on what I did expect of it and with which thoughts episode 2 left me:

Ookami-san really is unique in it's ordinarity.
It manages to pick up Fairy Tales, stereotypic characters, a school-setting, a narrator and many more cliches and puts them in a pretty unique form - Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi.

In episode one, most people got annoyed by the creative use of a narrator who makes fun of the characters and states the obvious all the time - in episode two we see how fitting it really is. Character introductions are mostly done, but expanded.
It's fitting the whole fairy tale concept just perfectly and adds to the atmosphere.

And seriously, a narrator that apologizes for the flat-chested girls in fanservice-scenes? Just brilliant. Characters who get offended by those comments? The author's a genius.

In episode one they showed the staff of the Otogi Bank, who all get a certain role in the fairy tale cast:

Ookami-san is, obviously, the wolf. In episode 2 we learned that she wraps the wolf's fur around herself to not get hurt. Tsundere? Maybe, but I don't care as long as it makes sense in the whole plot, and seemingly it does.
Fighting with Cat-Knuckles? What? Hell, yes!

Ringo is simply the little red riding hood. Hope to see more of her cuteness in the following episodes.

Ryoushi though, is, honestly, a complete loser. Not that he's to blame, but sociophobia makes him that way. He faints when being stared at, no wonder that his confession to Ookami-san in episode one failed!
...but he seems reliable, a perfect stalker, a sniper! In episode 2 he really proves that he has some guts and can, indeed, protect Ookami-san. He's the Hunter.

That's the main cast, the rest of Otogi Bank's staff still needs to get explored a bit more. We've got 'Majo-san', the Witch or rather a mad scientist, but the roles of the other characters are too shrouded to state clearly what roles they fit in.

From the first few minutes of the first episode on, I thought that this is going to be a good, enjoyable anime. One of the best this season.
Episode two proved me correct.

Episode one left me with fear about it becoming another generic anime full of fanservice and without any real plot development til ~3episodes before the end.
Episode two instead left me with the foreshadowing of a higher plot which has to be explored, as well as Ookami-san's fear of letting her guard down. Yes, there may be a real romance coming up.

Fluid fight-scenes, fairy tale-parallels, narrator, creative use of cliches and Cat-marks left by Ookami's knuckles on enemies' cheeks?
Count me in!

Love the animation, love the absurdity, love the characters, love the plot, love the fairy tales, love the hidden meanings...
It's got massive potential!

K-ON!! (2nd Season)

Together with their junior member, Azusa Nakano, they spend their days after school in the music room enjoying tea and sweets and practicing music. Summer Season #Anime Subs Guide

Alright.
Not only is the Summer Season a bit dull.
No, even the subs....

So... I'm telling you about my allegiances:

  • Amagami SS - UTW is doing a great job. Beats Eclipse.

  • Highschool of the Dead - Hoped for UTW, but got licensed. CoalGuys for now.

  • Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakamatachi - of course I go with Mazui!

  • Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin - of course I'd have watched UTW, but.. CrunchyRoll's playing the troll again... Not watching til a decent group picks it up Hate Commie, but their redone Crunchy-Subs are okay this time.

  • Seitokai Yakuindomo - God-Speed Subs, after all...could be better, but it's the best out of the present.

  • Black★Rock Shooter - if it's not getting postponed again, we'll see plenty of subs for this one, I guess. Airs from July 24 onwards.

  • Cat Shit One - Everybody I showed the Trailer wanted to watch it, so... I'm hoping for someone good =3 Airs as ONA from July 17 onwards.

  • Digimon Xros Wars - hope it gets back to the roots, still waiting for subs, though.

  • Shiki - Mochi would do it, if they find new TLs and Typesetters. Got licensed.

Guess these are all those new ones that interest me. Still watching K-ON!! and Kaichou wa Maid-sama.

Oh, and I finished Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo. Instantly made it into my Top5. Watch it!

Fansub-Groups:

...pretty lame, don't you think? =/
As long as you ignore HorribleSubs and Commie, I'm proud of you.

Yep, it's time to watch old entries on our Lists that we keep to postpone every once in a while. It's Lucky Star for me, to be honest... and Haruhi S2 which I can't overcome anymore, thanks to endless eight...

I just suggest everyone to make the best out of their freetime in Summer.
Anime lives, even after DRRR!!, FMA:B and Angel Beats! ended...

Highschool of the Dead: First Impressions

...two words:

LOOKS SWEET.

BEWARE THE SPOILERS!

Seriously, I don't care about those too-much-fanservice-opinions.
It may be massive, yes, but most of it should have been obvious right from the start.
Episode one contains almost all scenes from the Trailer, so you KNEW it was going to serve the fans.

Takashi is surely an interesting character, seems like we'll get a good leader. He reacted to the threat, did what he had to do and has the motivation to fight.

Hisashi is/was annoying. Acted too high-and-mighty. 'Haha, I'm a blackbelt, I don't need weaponz' - yeah, sure, Zombie turned his head nearly 180° and YOU WERE FUCKED!
...at least his last words where reasonable, could have been a lead character if he wouldn't have acted so stupid.

Rei, though, is a hell of an annoying bitch. She seems hot like foreshadowed, BUT not kickass-hot as I'd like her to be, she's more like a dumb lovey dovey girl who CAN go enrage once in a while.
Once in a while.
Reads: Without help, she'd already be dead.
She even said that she'd rather have been bitten by her (ex)boyfriend and join the zombies than see his head smashed.

Baka-girl's interesting, haven't really heard a single character using 'baka' THAT often.

{{addition}}
Got scolded for leaving Saeko out of this post.
In fact, she doesn't really exist in my world yet.
She didn't speak a single word, just held a bokken, so...
Kendo-weapon = good thing. Character promising.
Yet I'll wait for her to have more screentime before judging.
{{/addition}}

Dead teachers are a plus.

Opening's pretty cool

That said, I am really excited about this episode.
Didn't expect Hisashi to die right away, though it was just as obvious as the bouncing boobs that he'd die sooner or later. He'd been Takashi's rival after all.
...though I wouldn't see getting Rei as girlfriend to be a good thing... hope that changes.

The 'panic'-scenes after the school-announcement were pretty sweet.
One moment you are friends, but the moment they get you, I'm gonna hate you.

I liked the Opening a lot. ED was okay, but a bit meh, reminded me of SHAFT using a zoom-out-of-a-picture-ED for about 9/12 episodes.

Let's see how this develops.
Hisashi said that once they'd learn about the reason they could search for a solution. Don't think this will happen.
It'd be weird to drop the highschool-setting and in highschool they couldn't develop some cure. It's not possible.
They can't be rescued because at least the whole city(?) is in utter despair. Who cares for a bunch of students?

The only solution, for now, is SMASHING HEADS! Hell, yes!

...anyway, going to link the downloads once I decide on which fansub group to support. Looks like CoalGuys, but well...
For now, I'll leave you with the MyAnimeList-Link

PS: yeah, it's uncensored.

Warhammer Fantasy Battles 8th
